The disco ball is spinning and the dance floor is ready. Denon is pleased to present you an exclusive interview with dance diva, Jacinta.
Nominated best break-through artist solo at the 2008 International Dance Music Awards, Jacinta is more than just a pretty face. With Past billboard hits such as Sunshine, Destination, Can’t Keep it a Secret, Electric Universe and I See Fire, Jacinta has been compared to Madonna mixed with a hint of Kylie and Sarah Mclachlan.

Hailing from Australia, Jacinta is not only a singer, she is also a songwriter, producer, performer. With her first single, Destination, released in 2006, soaring up the Billboard Dance and Radio charts succeeded by Sunshine which hit #20on Billboard’s Dance Club Chart in the same year, Jacinta is really a promising artist that we ought to be keeping a look out for.
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Jacinta, and I’m a music artist, vocalist, I play piano/keys, perform live and program most of my music. I love and live for the magic in music and especially dance music, electro house and trance. Although I was born in Oregon, my time there was brief as my family moved to Sydney when I was still a child. There was an excellent live scene growing up and my ‘band apprenticeship’ was playing keyboards and singing backing vocals in an all girl band called Maiden Voyage. We toured the East Coast of Australia and beyond. It was brilliant and I was hooked! I co own the label Chunky Music and have been living in Austin Texas for nearly a decade! I have had 5 consecutive Billboard club hits with Chunky Music … it’s only the beginning.
When did you first decide to become a Musician?
I was asked to audition for Maiden Voyage a week after I bought my first keyboard and buying a keyboard had been a passion since the very first time I heard those big fat synth analog sounds when I was a kid. I remember thinking I had to have the keyboard or whatever it was that could make those sounds. I grew up loving UK 80′s bands like the Thompson Twins, Tears For Fears, Erasure and their sounds stirred me to want to create music electronically like that. As soon as I had the opportunity, I bought a keyboard and I’ve been ‘a musician’ ever since. But at the Winter Music Conference 08, while doing workshops for IK Multimedia and chatting with two dj/producer friends of mine, I realized DJing was to be my next step. I’ve had a handful of DJ gigs, but am currently expanding my set up to enable me to create my DJ Love Freq rig!

What is your idea of SOUND Bliss?
Crystal clear either in the studio or in the cans, but nothing beats feeling it right through you in a club. I like it loud and feeling it resonating my whole body. Hands in the air!
When did you first hear of DENON?
The very first studio I recorded in used Denon headphones as well as Denon CD and cassette players.
Who is doing work today that really inspires you?
Josh Gabriel, Dave Guetta, Deadmau5, Kaskade, Banger Bros, BT, Cybersutra and the fabulous emotive voices of Lizzy and Jess.
What do you think the future of music holds in store for us?
I think the future of music in 10 or 50 years as now will primarily be determined by where humanity is at and the trends of the time. Music creators are mostly commenting on life as they experience it and create a song in a sound that others can resonate with because their own life experience is the same. Technology is enabling most of us to live in a global society and artists can directly find the peeps that will relate to what they do. From my observation, this is enabling us to find our ‘tribes’ and the result will eventually create, more secularity rather than a global music consensus. But there will always be the artists that inspire human consciousness, like U2 for example who touch the lives of nearly everyone as they positively ripple human thoughts and attitudes. New technology will define sound as we know it, but ultimately, people need music and will seek out the magic they need from it and as music artists, we will continue to create it passionately, as we always have.
If you could own a piece of sound equipment that you currently don’t have, what would that be?
Most definitely the DN-S3700! It would totally pull my live electronica and DJ rigs together. I’m loving how the technology for music artists and DJ’s has merged over the past years. I believe that part of the challenge of making music electronically is creating music that has soul, groove and feel with instruments, hard and soft, that inherently don’t have those characters. Using equipment like the DN-S3700 that responds to your touch instantly will be fantastic, especially mixing my vocals and vox samples with beats that make the dance floor sweat! Bring it on!

Nice interview. We’ve had the pleasure of working Jacinta’s music for some years now with great success through our music pool of DJs around the globe, Starfleet Music Pool. Her vocals are always clear & even sultry at times. Her music will move you towards the dancefloor & keep you there any time of the night. She is a hit.
Having Known Jacinta and her minds’ eyes for a while, I wish to Thank You for the time to Interview such a Lady whose talents reach far beyond the musical ears as well. Being a late 60s follower of Olivia and many Australians to date, Jacintas’ vocals excel beyond expected limited always and her warm personality makes it such a blessing to have known her and her co partner Barnsey and excites my as they control their destiny with Chunky label whereas sad to say many become enslaved and lose their original identities thereof! Jacinta is One of the few I will drop all things and run to including my granddaughters big 2 yr old birthday bash 8/2009 for DREAM that she produced! Note: carry GUM as she loves guuuuuum after her performances!
The world’s better with artists like Jacinta around. I like how she uses what she has to create soulful music.
I wonder if Denon plans to give away those DN-S3700s that Jacinta likes. LOL. I hear they’re giving out in-ear headphones in their Facebook Fan page (www.facebook.com/denonusa) as a celebration of sorts for their 100th year. Spread the word! Although hmm that will cut my chances! Haha!
